The festive season is upon us and even though there is a raging pandemic people will still be travelling across provinces as well as inter-provincially and internationally.
While we all take care to be safe here are our top 10 tips for a safe trip this silly season.

WhatsApp: 071 501 6007 - If you are unable to call but are able to use WhatsApp you can contact us on our emergency WhatsApp line that is available Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm.
Prescriptions:
Ensure your prescription medication is filled up for the time you will be away. Also ensure you have a script with you for your medication incase you need to refill a script while away.
Allergies:
If a family member suffers from an allergy that could result in anaphylaxis please ensure you have a valid epipen with you at all times. Accidents happen whether it is food induced or a bee sting and the last thing you want is to be caught without the proper medication while travelling on the road. Also ensure you carry the epipen with you when visiting tourist attractions.
First aid kit:
You can never go wrong with having a fully stocked first aid kit in the car. Even better is knowing how to use everything in the first aid kit. The standard motorist first aid kit has all the essentials and covers your basic needs while on the road. If you need assistance with a First Aid kit or are unsure on how to use the items in the first first aid kit please do not hesitate to contact us. If you are venturing into the wilderness you would require a more comprehensive First Aid kit like a regulation 3 kit or higher.
Spare Wheel:
Before any road trip ensure your spare wheel is is a good condition and will be able to get you from point A to B should it be needed. Do not forget to check the jack, wheel spanner, reflective triangle, reflective vest and the optional tyre foam is stocked in the vehicle. If you are going “bundu bashing” a tyre repair kit could also be handy with a couple of extra wheel nuts for just incase. if you have lock nuts on your tyres, ensure you have the key for the lock nuts.
Alcohol:
Yes, yes, we know you have heard this a thousand times but seriously do not drink and drive.
This time of year we see A LOT of accidents involving alcohol and many of these accidents would not have happened would the driver have been sober. Keep yourself, your family and the road safe by rather having a designated driver. Also remember in the Western Cape the curfew is still set at 00:00 - 04:00
Speed:
This year has been tough and you might be in a hurry to get away or to see family and friends, but it is not worth getting injured or loosing a life over. Next to drinking and driving, speed is one of the top culprits when it comes to motor vehicle accidents. Stick to the speed limit and where possible drive slower and be observant of your surroundings. And most definitely GET OFF YOUR PHONE.
Minors:
Children under the age of 3 are legally required to be safely strapped into an approved child safety seat. Booster seats for children over the age of 3 and under 1.5m are also excellent for safety as it ensures the safety belt does not choke them and secures them safely in the event of an incident. Not all children love their car seats or booster seats but this is where safety comes first. As adults we are required to ensure our children are safe and protected and wearing a safety belt that fits them properly, through the use of a car or booster seat, is a non negotiable.
Take breaks:
It is advised to take a driving break every 200km or 2 hours. Not only does a quick stretch of the legs help your circulation it can also help improve your concentration and make your driving experience more pleasant and safer. Your destination isn’t going to run away and a few rest breaks can be the difference between arriving or not.
